  3. Effective? • Due to a dramatic loss of sparrows, a ecological imbalance occurred • Rice production decreased due to a rise in locusts • Credited for the great Chinese famine • 30 million died of starvation

  4. Result? • Total Backfire • Chinese emperor continued the quest against the pests, but he switched the sparrow for bedbugs
