  1. Turn off all unnecessary equipment at the end of the work day. The last person who leaves a building should turn off lights. Unplug equipment that drains energy even when not in use (e.g., cell phone chargers, coffeemakers, and desktop printers). General Electrical Energy Saving Tips • Keep Laboratory fume hood sashes at a minimum safe working height. Sashes should be no more than 18” open when the hood is in use, and at 6” open when the hood is not in use. • Set air conditioning thermostats to 78 degrees or • higher, or use a fan. • Send a document as an e-mail attachment instead • of faxing it.
