Recent Developments • Appointing 2 PNMR leads in GM, C&L post vacant • Appointing 0.6 WTE PNMR Coordinator • Portfolio has expanded rapidly with new and existing projects identified • Expansion to West Yorkshire • Links have been made with PNMR researchers who have previously been unfamiliar with the Network • Our website now contains PNMR information Medicines for Children Research Network

MCRN vs PNMR Important ‘badge’ for Paediatric Research MCRN is DH priority group and it’s work should not be diluted/distracted by PNMR However, both must work closely and MCRN may be able to provide expertise and infrastructure – economies of scale Medicines for Children Research Network Medicines for Children Research Network

  13. Funding Locally: GMLC receives £535,000 core budget/annum for MCRN GM CLRN provides £188,000/annum for MCRN - now this needs to extend to cover PNMR C&L CLRN provides ~£200,000 for MCRN and now PNMR Medicines for Children Research Network Medicines for Children Research Network

Remit of National PNMR Specialty Group To provide the CCRN with access to a national network with topic specific expertise To provide advice on both “do-ability” and more detailed feasibility for both commercial and publicly-funded studies To provide members for adoption committees and provide input into topic specific training Management support provided by MCRN CC MCRN LRNs will coordinate all portfolio studies (with priority given to MCRN studies) Expansion of the existing 12 Clinical Study Groups to incorporate PNMR expertise The CCRN is not funded to drive the portfolio of research in specific topic areas. RCPCH will make available a budget to support the PNMR Specialty Group in those areas which are not funded by the CCRN such as portfolio development and oversight. Developing a local PNMR Strategy • Develop effective performance management processes to capture and analyse data on PNMR projects • Raise the profile of PNMR across the region including the benefits of adoption • Improve links with PNMR researchers outside of Manchester • Link PNMR to Medicines research, e.g. • Building cohorts • Long-term pharmacovigilence • Provide a structure & a focus for Paediatric research, and some degree of quality control Medicines for Children Research Network
