  1. Pros & Cons of Sit Stand Desks! Copenhagen, DK, Nov 10, 2017- As the harmful effects of sitting over long periods have become clearer with time, the sitting arrangement in workplaces has come under scrutiny. People working in offices are left with no other choice than to live a sedentary life because of their desk-bound jobs. But height adjustable desks have given a new ray of hope to such people. Offering the options of both sitting and standing while working, these desks may just become the office furniture of the future. Let’s have a look at the pros and cons of the sit stand desks to understand how useful they really are as far as health matters are concerned. Pros a) Alternating between standing and sitting helps in relieving the tension and tightness of muscles, especially those in the bottom half of the body including leg muscles, glute muscles and lower back muscles. b) Standing over sitting allows burning of greater number of calories in comparison. Even though standing is not the same as working out in the gym, it’s still a better alternative than plain sitting. c) Switching from time to time between sitting and standing improves one’s energy and concentration levels. Prolonged sitting and working can make one feel dull and lethargic. Height adjustable desksgive one an opportunity to stand up and do their work with more energy whenever they feel sluggish. d) Sitting too much can weak havoc on posture leading to neck stiffness, shoulder ache, back pain among other postural problems. This may lead to muscle soreness and fatigue. You will need footwear in which you can comfortably sit as well as stand while working. Heels will no longer remain an option. c) While sitting over long periods can cause poor posture, so can standing over long periods if one doesn’t keep his form in check. Proper standing form requires proper alignment between the body and the work space. d) Sit stand desksare best used for working on monitor screens. If one works on laptop, then sit stand desksmay not be such a good option. This is so because in a standing position one will be naturally inclined to lean in towards the laptop for working thus leading to poor posture. e) Standing for too long without any movement can cause the blood to pool in the areas of ankles and calves. There could be an increased risk of getting varicose veins.
