  2. Muscular Dystrophy • Muscular Dystrophy is a group of genetic disorder, characterized by progressive muscle weakness and wasting (atrophy). These forms of muscular dystrophy occur almost exclusively in males. • Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is an X-linked recessive genetic disease. Worldwide, around 1 in 3500 boys suffer from DMD. The child is usually normal at birth but the disease onsets around 3 years of age.
