  2. Assignment: Create an expressionistic linoleum print using music as your inspiration. You may choose any song, please make sure that it is school appropriate.

  3. Things to know: • Do not use words: they do not transfer well on linoleum and it is better to let your piece speak for itself. • Remember that you are in a school environment: The images you choose, as well as the content of your song should be appropriate for display. • Your image will be backwards when you print it. • It is important to think about line and texture and how you can use them to help with expressionism • Avoid clichés – broken hearts, rainbows, moon and stars etc. A cliché is a hackneyed phrase -- stale, trite, banal, commonplace, corny, dull, musty, redundant, repetitious, tedious, threadbare, timeworn, tired, tiresome, worn-out, boring.

  4. Requirements: • Three thumbnail sketches prior to beginning. • 2 prints, one black and white and one altered with colored pencil. • Use what you know about Expressionism to help you create an interesting composition.

  5. Vocabulary: • Plate • Baren • Brayer • Registration • Series • Printing Press Bed • Rollers • Couching Blanket
