  16. BS/Master’s Option • Need to Apply for Entry ASAP • Highly Competitive Program • GPA Requirements for Entry • 4 vs. 5 co-ops • Earn two degrees • Work closely with a graduate advisor on a research or Product Development activity

  17. College Honors Program • By Invitation of the Dean of Engineering • International Experience, such as • Possible International Co-op • Distance Collaboration on Design Teams • Foreign Enrichment Experience • Term Abroad Opportunities • Engineering in a Global Environment • Personalized Academic Challenges

  18. Co-Op Info for Mech Engineers • Ms. Annette Stewart is the co-op coordinator for all mechanical engineering students. • Recently 100-150 job openings each quarter. • Most jobs are in New York state and nearby areas. However, there are opportunities nationally and internationally. • Wages for most students on their first or second co-op period fall between $8.00 and $13.00 per hour; this increases in later co-ops. • The Co-op office helps M.E. Students with • Group and individual job search assistance • Arranging for employers to visit the RIT campus • Listing available co-op and full time positions available • Access to a library of job search resources

  19. Recent Employers of RIT M.E.s: • IBM (Several locations) • INSA (France) • ITT/Goulds Pumps • Johnson Controls • Johnson & Johnson • Motorola • Pactiv • Parker Hannifin • Peko Precision Products • Raymond Corporation • Rochester Gas & Electric • Valmet Paper Machines (Finland) • Xerox Corporation • Alstom Signaling • AMP • Bausch & Lomb • Black & Decker (Emhart Power) • Carrier Corporation • Garlock • General Motors (Several locations) • Dresser Rand • Eastman Kodak • General Electric (Several locations) • Gleason • Hansford Manufacturing • Harris Corporation (RF Communications)

  20. Academic Assistance Resources • Faculty = Academic Advisor • Faculty – Course Instructor • Engineering Learning Center • Learning Development Center • KGCOE Office of Student Services • Counseling Center • Math Lab • Physics Lab

  21. M.E.s Work Well in Teams and Individually • M.E.s work with teams of other professionals (other engineering disciplines, science, business, political professionals) and skilled labor. • An M.E. is often looked to as the General Practitioner of the engineering disciplines • Mechanical Engineers do equally well in small firms (the only engineer around) and in large corporations (focused expertise for the problem at hand).

  22. Summary • RIT Mechanical Engineering is • Exciting • Challenging • Rewarding • We’re pleased to have you visiting here at RIT. • Enjoy your tours, and feel free to ask questions! • If this sounds like the right program for you, please consider applying.
