  3. Activities • 2 Group starter activities to aid understanding of term ‘concept’. • Examine concept photographs in groups and individually + Quiz.

  5. REVIEW • When the mind makes a generalization such as the concept of tree, it extracts similarities from numerous examples; the simplification enables higher-level thinking. • A diagram illustrating graphically the generalization process, using trees.

  24. Conceptual photography is used everyday by magazines, The Internet and newspapers to illustrate ideas or convey messages to an audience.

  25. SHOOTING CONCEPT PHOTOGRAPHS IDEA - The idea comes first. MESSAGE - Analyse the “message” you want to convey. SYMBOLS - Conceptual photography makes use of graphical symbols. AUDIENCE - Concept shooting involves careful consideration of your Audience. How will your message touch them most powerfully. EMOTIONS - Concept shooting is centred on emotions, and the telling of a story in its message. Place on blog TASK 3

  30. IN CONCEPTUAL PHOTOGRAPHY There is some level of abstraction, thus, in a conceptual photo: the image is a general expression of the idea.

  31. IN CONCEPTUAL PHOTOGRAPHYTHE IDEA COMES FIRST In Conceptual photography the idea comes first. A conceptual photographer is trying to bring a message to the viewer, it might be a political or social message.

  32. USE OF SYMBOLS Conceptual photography makes use of graphical symbols to show ideas, movements or moods that the photographer might want to include in the message of their photograph. Symbols with strong, well-established connotations are usually used, from racy red lipstick, a bleeding heart, a red apple to a twenty pound note.
