History… • Founded in 1817 in Detroit • Moved to Ann Arbor in 1837 • The first classes that were held in Ann Arbor were in 1841 • Out of the class there were six freshman and a sophomore • Eleven students graduated at the first commencement in 1845 • By 1866 enrollment increased to 1,205 students • Women were first allowed into the university in 1870 • U of M’s curriculum aggressively expanded • By 1950 enrollment increased to 21,000 students Sabrina DeLong

History Continued • On March 24, 1965 a group of faculty members and students held the nation's first ever faculty-led "teach-in“ • In 2003, two lawsuits involving U-M's affirmative action admissions policy reached the U.S. Supreme Court. President George W. Bush took the unusual step of publicly opposing the policy before the court issued a ruling • The debate continues because in November 2006, Michigan voters passed Proposal 2, banning most affirmative action in university admissions Sabrina DeLong

Why I Picked This School • I chose the University of Michigan to go to because it is one of the Nation’s best school’s in the medical program and it is a research school which means I will get a hands on experience • The University of Michigan is ranked one of the top public schools nationally and is one of the nation’s top research schools • My program of interest would be the nursing program • I would like to study nursing because I would like to become a pediatric nurse Sabrina DeLong

Requirements • Completed graduate admissions application and application fee • GPA of 3.0 or higher • Some exceptions are made occasionally • Some programs require letters of recommendations and/or standardized test scores • Applicants whose native language is not English must provide an official score report Sabrina DeLong
