Senile Demetia • Senile Dementia- is a collective term that describes conditions characterized by memory loss, forgetfulness, disorientation of time and place, a decline in the ability to think, impaired attention, altered personality, and difficulties in relating to others. • One of the most common forms of Senile Dementia is Alzheimer's.

  12. Do old people get stupid? • Cross-sectional studies show decline. • Longitudinal Studies show consistency. What is the difference?   13. But there are different types of intelligence. • Crystallized intelligence: one’s accumulated knowledge and verbal skills; tends to increase with age. Fluid Intelligence:one’s ability to reason speedily and abstractly; tends to decrease during late adulthood.

  15. Dying and Death • Elizabeth Kubler Ross studied Thantology. Thantologyis the study of death and dying. She came up with the 5 Stages of Death. This is 5 stages someone might go through when confronted with death. • 1. denial • 2. anger • 3. bargaining • 4. depression • 5. acceptance

  16. Hospice • Hospice is a special place where the terminally ill people go to die. The hospice is designed to look less like a hospital. Dr.’s do not prolong life. There is also hospice that goes out and services people in their home.

Letter to your Grandchild • Erikson talks about as you get older you go through the final Psychosocial Stage: Generativity vs. Stagnation: The desire to pass on one’s knowledge to future generations. • Your job now is to pretend you are age 91 and you are writing a letter to a grandchild and you are telling them what you learned in life.
