  3. Section 27.1 Assessment What did JFK mean by the term “new frontier”? In what ways did Kennedy represent change to the American people? How do you think Kennedy chose his advisors? Why were U.S. – Cuban relations strained when Kennedy took office? Why would a strong Soviet alliance with a Latin American nation make the United States uneasy? Do you think the Bay of Pigs invasion could have been more successful? How? What demands did Khrushchev make at the conference in Vienna? Why was Kennedy relieved when he heard about the Berlin Wall? What was the immediate set of events that resulted in the Cuba missile crisis? Why did Kennedy choose a blockade over an air strike in dealing with Soviet missiles in Cuba?
