  2. A citizen is… A. a person who does good deeds. B. someone involved in politics. C. a member of a community who has rights and responsibilities. D. an adult.

  3. So does that mean that I’m a citizen? Of a city? Of a state? Am I a citizen of the world? We’re citizens of SOMETHING, right?

  4. YES! A community is a group of people who share an environment. Every day you are part of several different layers of community. That means you have many different levels of citizenship!

  13. SOURCES OF RIGHTS & RESPONSIBILITIES If being a citizen means having rights and responsibilities, where do rights and responsibilities come from?

  14. We get our rights and responsibilities as citizens from… A. different places, depending on the level of citizenship. B. one member of the community who decides for us. C. politicians. D. the President.

Declaration of Independence (1776) Everyone is created equal and endowed at birth with basic rights. UN Charter (1945) Human rights, dignity, and equality are central global values in the modern era. Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) The rights of all people must be protected if the world is to have freedom, justice, and peace.
