History A Brief History of the Naval Air Depot, Jacksonville http://www.nadjx.navy.mil/History%20Page.htm In 1939, the citizens of Jacksonville voted a $1 million bond issue to purchase the site for the Naval Air Station. NAS Jacksonville is the only military installation in the nation established by a direct gift of the people.
