  1. Welcome to SAT Prep Ms. Kylie

  2. Welcome! • Objective: Students will understand the components of the SAT along with specific test taking strategies. • Online Resources: • http://sat.collegeboard.org/practice • https://www.number2.com/ • Test Anxiety? • http://www.collegexpress.com/articles-and-advice/test-prep/articles/test-taking-tips/combating-test-anxiety/

  3. CLASS 3 WARM-UP • Read the passages and answer the questions. Notice that some of the questions ask you to consider both passages.

  4. READING: THE LONG PASSAGE Now you’ve practiced Sentence Completions, short passages, and a short double passage. Next we’ll practice a long passage. The questions are not presented in order of difficulty. Rather, they are presented in order by line number. Use this to your advantage!

  5. STEP 1: MAP YOUR PASSAGE Go through the questions. For each question that refers to a specific line number, draw a bracket in the margin around those line numbers. Write the number of the question next to the bracket. You now have one minute to map the passage on your handout. Do not answer any of the questions, yet!

  6. STEP 2: READ AND ANSWER AS YOU GO Start reading the passage at the beginning. When you reach your first bracket, read THROUGH the bracketed lines and read AT LEAST 5 LINES below that area. Stop and answer the question. Go back and start reading where you left off. Read until you reach the next bracketed area.

  7. STEP 3. TACKLE ANY LEFTOVER QUESTIONS Once you’ve read the passage and answered all the questions with line number references, go back and answer any questions without line numbers, which are typically the “big picture” questions. You have 9 minutes. Go!

  8. MINI TEST ANSWERS 10) E 11) A • E • B • B • D

  9. MINI TEST SCORE ESTIMATE • For your Mini Test score estimate, we’re going to combine your Double Passage Warm-Up with your Long Passage Mini Test, for a total of 10 questions. • Count up the number of questions you got correct and incorrect, out of the 10. Do not count any questions you skipped as incorrect. Use the chart on your handout to find your estimated score.
