  8. Green Teams: Quick win example – knapsack sprayer • Was dispersed from 25L drums • Replaced with 1000L IBCs, decanted into knapsack sprayers • Reduced waste • Frees up deck space • Less manual handling • 60% less chemical used & discharged

  9. Green Team: Waste Minimisation in Action: Captain WPP/BLP • As part of project to install DONUT tertiary escape system scope included removal of Davits (recyclable as scrap metal) and 2 x (24m x 3.5m) scramble nets • Nets had never been deployed and were in perfect condition → seemed unnecessary, so decision to dispose. But where and how?

  10. Green Team: Waste Minimisation in Action: Captain WPP/BLP • Crew member made contact with CEO of an outdoor centre in Lochgoilhead, Argyll. • Outdoor centre could utilise the nets for ropes courses assault course obstacles etc & thus were very keen to be donated the scramble nets. • Worked with Chevron Legal & PGPA teams to get necessary legal waiver documents created in a timely manner to prevent items clogging space on the platform (Whole process completed in 4 wks!) • Transportation arranged with logistics – small truck, rear crane to suit remote location. • Ardroy Centre using within their facility.

  11. Green Teams: Waste Review Waste data reviewed monthly by assets showed large fluctuations in some monthly recycling percentages, but overall the recycling rate for the asset was very good and no explanation could be found as to why the drop occurred. Local green team analysed all the data and discovered that the periods where recycling rates were low coincided with times when neither Drilling nor Construction were onboard. Further investigation revealed that high volumes of scrap metal was masking the true recycling figure, and overall was room for strengthened performance.

  12. Green Team: Waste Review • The team reviewed local waste disposal practices and tried to focus on behaviours of individuals as well as awareness, by posting monthly progress in a simplistic manner, giving presentations to crews and to ensure all waste facilities were available. • Asset observed almost a 100% increase in the recycling rates for general waste in 3 years. • Around 27% 2009 prior to implementing changes offshore – around 50% in 2012 • All figure quoted are taken from EEMS data reported to DECC

  13. Green Team: FLIR emissions detection camera Internet search discovered FLIR camera and found that there was a local supplier – demo arranged Visit to vendor followed by vendor visit offshore and initial survey conducted Camera has since been demonstrated at industry forums and interest has soared Reduced emissions to air Emission Area

  14. Local Environmental Awareness • Currently ANP green team are putting a presentation together on local environmental awareness, to show how the platform interacts with the environment, what happens when things go wrong and how individually we can affect it.
