  4. Activities Making Landforms and Bodies of Water T-Shirts As an activity you could have your students pick a continent or a body of water to have stenciled onto a white t-shirt. It would be a fun hands-on activity. You could also include words that describe their continent or body of water. Click here for directions and materials! Map Skills Scavenger Hunt As a fun activity, hide clues or items around your classroom (or the whole school) for your students to find. Create a map with stars locating where the items you hid are at. The students will use the map to locate the hidden objects. Landforms and Bodies of Water Representation Using a paper plate, paint, and clay/Play-doh, have your students create the different types of landforms and bodies of water. They can do this individually or in groups. Click here to for directions and materials.

  5. Songs Landforms, Teacher and the Rockbots This song is all about landforms. Your students will really enjoy learning about landforms through listening and watching this video. Although it is called Landforms, it also mentions bodies of water as well. Globe, Teacher and the Rockbots This video talks about the globe and explains all parts of it. Globes can be complicated to use so this would be an important video to use in your classroom to help your students understand the globe.

  6. Books Video of book being read Video of book being read This perky concept book explores map skills as it follows the paths of several animals through a variety of locales. In a series of spreads a rabbit hops, a crow flies, a horse trots, a gull glides and an eagle soars. . . . Wry line and watercolor art portray physical features and animal landmarks. The Cat in the Hat introduces beginning readers to maps–the different kinds (city, state, world, topographic, temperature, terrain, etc.); their formats (flat, globe, atlas, puzzle); the tools we use to read them (symbols, scales, grids, compasses); and funny facts about the places they show us. The sixty-three entries from A to Z describe the earth's features -- its physical geography -- from the highest mountain peak to the deepest ocean trench, and…more. There are pictures that go along with each feature to make it very kid friendly and understandable.

  7. Videos • Maps- An Intro for Kids • This video explains what maps are used for, the different types of maps, and how to use them. It even explains the different colors in maps and what they stand for. This would be a very good video to show your students who are learning about maps. • Landforms for Smartboard • This video is not for you to show your students but it is for you to watch and learn how to do a lesson using a smartboard. This lesson would be fun to use if your school had a smartboard. It goes over all the different kinds of landforms and bodies of water.
