  3. OpenADR System Architecture • Automated DR signaling with utility price, reliability, or event signals to trigger customers’ pre-programmed energy management strategies. • One of 16 NIST Smart Grid Interoperability Standards. • OASIS PR released! Pricing Data Models Physical Communications Control Strategies

  4. OpenADR and NIST Smart Grid Roadmap Conceptual Model

  5. Regulatory Approval Process OpenADR 2.0 NIST • Develop requirements by SDOs and other organizations • SDO Updates Standard • NIST reviews / passes to FERC for consideration FERC • Develop requirements by SDOs and other organizations • SDO Updates Standard • NIST reviews / passes to FERC for consideration OpenADR v2.0 FERC • FERC (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission) determines whether to consider • EISA (Energy Independence and Securities Act

  6. What is the OpenADR Alliance? • California-based nonprofit 501(c)(6) corporation • Member-based organization comprised of industry stakeholders interested in fostering OpenADR adoption • Leverages Smart Grid-related standards from OASIS, UCA and NAESB • Supports development, testing, and deployment of commercial OpenADR • Enables stakeholders to participate in automated DR, dynamic pricing, and electricity grid reliability

  7. OpenADR Mission The mission of the OpenADR Alliance is to foster the development, adoption, and compliance of the Open Automated Demand Response (OpenADR) standards through collaboration, education, training, testing, and certification.

  8. Alliance Goals • Coordination with standards organizations for release of OpenADR 2.0 • Successful Testing/Compliance Program • Education of the Standard and it’s Implementation • Market acceptance and adoption of OpenADR

  9. OpenADR Members Sponsors Contributors Adopters

  10. Technical Committee Priorities • Complete OpenADR 2.0 specification feature sets • Define the policy framework for compliance (refer UCA CPRM and SGIP IPRM) • Plan for certification and compliance program • Complete OpenADR 2.0 specification test cases • Test procedures • Test tools • Test labs • Support OpenADR compliant development (e.g., test bed databases, plug-fests) • Participate and contribute in SGIP SGTCC IPRM process. • Evaluate and support technical harmonization • Facilitate transition of OpenADR 1.0 to 2.0

  11. OpenADR Planned Activities • Develop a conformance, certification, and testing process/programs • Collaborate with SDOs and user groups for the continued enhancements of the OpenADR standard • Collaborate with government agencies to expand the adoption of OpenADR • Develop an OpenADR marketing portal targeted to customers that may be interested in participating in an automated DR program • Conduct and provide education and training sessions for system integrators, control vendors, and others to enable them to install “OpenADR-ready” • Establish centralized development and documentation related to OpenADR deployments • Develop programs to allow vendors to develop, test, and demonstrate their ability to integrate with OpenADR signals
