  1. Ms. Hood’s Class First Grade 2011-2012

  2. Reading Groups • Students will be split into different groups • I will meet with every group twice a week • Normally • Students will have a response journal (activity) every week

  3. Response Journal • Response Journals will be assigned the first day in the week I meet with their group • They are due 2 days later, the next time I meet with the group • I will make a schedule when I get the groups set • I will post the schedule on the website • At first a notebook will come home and then will be eventually be done online in School Web • If this will be difficult please let me know and I can send it home in paper form

  4. Reading Log • A reading log will be placed in their McAuliffe folder. (It will be replaced as necessary) • Please leave in folder • Please fill out this log with your child as they read throughout the week • You can log Guided Reading books • There is not a set limit of minutes • I will give incentives though • Purpose • Help get in the habit of reading • Lets me see what they choose to read on their own

  5. Word Wall Words (WWW) • We will have 5-6 new words each week • The words will be posted on School Web/My website • These words will be posted on our word wall in the classroom • Students need to know how to use the words in a sentence in context • I will read the test to them for a few weeks • Progressing to only reading non word wall words and word families

  6. Dictation Sentences • I will say aloud sentences using word wall words • Students will write them down • Counts for a Spelling and Language Arts grade • Use word families from Word Wall to make words • Non word family words will be given

  7. Words Their Way (WTW) • Spelling Program • Same groups as reading groups • Teaches the spelling patterns versus memorizing words • Sort words depending on spelling rule • A word sort will be sent home at the beginning • of the week (every other week) • These are for you to sort various ways during the two weeks • We will use the same words for 2 weeks • Tests will be every other Friday • Early sorts may be pictures

  8. enVisionMath • This is our main math curriculum • Accessible online • www.pearsonsuccesnet.com • Can use at home • Guided Lessons Videos • Activities • Games

  9. Math-Excel • Supplemental math • Great spiraling and daily review • Excel can seem a little long and overwhelming at first

  10. Flipping the Classroom • Math/Science • Watch instructional videos/lessons at home • These will be on School Web • More personalized stations and small groups in class • Khanacademy.org

  11. Behavior • Whole Class • Behavior Bingo • Good Citizen Tickets (Individual) • Redirection/Verbal Warnings • Smiley Face Chart • Green= Great Day • Yellow=Not sogreat day • Miss 5-10 minutes of recess • Red=Not a good day • Miss all of Recess • You will get an email or phone call from me

  12. McAuliffe Folder • Sent home everyday • Responsibility Chart stays in • Since our folder goes home everyday, please initial for each day so I know you saw the folder • I usually write what happened and don’t use the numbers
