  1. Borras Park Infants School Wrexham Grounds Development 2013

  2. Grounds Development • Eco Committee and Play Development Committee met to complete an audit of school grounds • They took photos of areas they thought were tired and in need of development. • Homework tasks included questions such as ‘Show us what you like/don’t like about our outdoor space and why.’

  3. What next? • Eco Committee felt that the playground structures were tired. • The shelter on the front of the building was old.

  4. The allotments needed a fence to separate them from the playground. • Playground equipment needed replacing.

  5. Groundwork trust were consulted and came into school to work with children in Forest School. • Parents helped too. • Willow domes were restored.

  6. They planted a ‘fedge’ – a living willow hedge to separate areas of Forest School to allow a free play area while lessons are taking place.

  7. A new entrance made from green oak now allows children access at playtimes • The ‘fedge’ creates a natural barrier.

  8. A pond was created in Forest School to establish a wildlife area. • The marginal area has been planted with flowering wetland plants.

  9. Decayed playground structures have been replaced. • Raised planters have been established to screen the bike shed.

  10. The allotments are fenced off for Gardeners. • New water butts installed to water the plants

  11. A previous ‘eyesore’ behind Nursery Plus building was cleared and transformed to make a sensory garden using a grant from the Thomas Howells trust.

  12. Fencing was removed to open out the area. • Old planting boxes were removed and raised beds installed. • The previously unused path to Forest School was grassed over and a digging area created for the children.

  13. Our sensory garden

  14. An artist worked with us to brighten the wall in the sensory garden. • We used recycled materials to create our mural.

  15. Now we can listen to stories and make music in our new garden. • We love the grassed area to sit and play.

  16. We are looking forward to the playground being finished this summer so we can plant herbs in the new planters. • They are not in the way though……we have found another use for them!

  17. We love watering the vegetables.

  18. We love our outdoor classroom.

  19. We hope you do too! Thank you for visiting…..
