The strategy: Why are we doing it? • Introduction of interdisciplinary programs • Internationalization @ Home • Mobility (min. 30 out of 120 ECTS credits abroad) • Strengthening the strategic areas South Eastern Europe and Bologna Process • Positioning Graz University in the region • Increasing employability of students

  5. Joint Degrees 3. Project: What are we doing here? (1) • Application with provincial government of Styria - Zukunftsfonds Steiermark – 06/2004 • Amount granted: 400.000,- € • Team in IRO: 3 persons (100 % + 20 % + 20 %) • Project phase: October 1, 2004 – September 30, 2007 (3 years). Admission of first students in September 2007 • Aim: Development and implementation of 6 Joint Degree Programs, 120 ECTS, MA level

Project: What are we doing here (2) The six JD programs coordinated by Graz • Alps Adriatic English & American Studies – Pécs, Trieste, Bamberg, CUNY, Roehampton • Environmental System Sciences – Maribor, ETH Zurich • Gender Studies – Naples, Granada • Jewish Studies – Basel, Heidelberg • Latin American Studies – Bremen, Leuven, Poitiers • South East European History – Cluj, Ljubljana

  7. 3. Project: What are we doing here (3) Actual state of affairs • Partners fixed – Letters of Intent • 2nd and 3rd cooperation meetings • Learning outcomes, modules, ECTS • By June 1st: Draft version of joint curriculum and cooperation agreement

  8. 4. Good practice & bad experience What makes our lives difficult? • Language • Legal challenges • BA/MA reorganization not yet complete

Good Practice and Bad Experience (2) • Lessons learned from previous project • Sufficient funding • Careful analysis of project environment • Well researched choice of partners • Lobbying on all levels • Administrative and academic staff involved • Information package and folder

  10. Keep in mind.... Good Practice and Bad Experience (3) • Central documentation • Communication via one coordinator • It‘s a LOT of work... and money! • Top down AND bottom up • Commitment of everybody involved
