Easter Easter is the most important annual religious feast in the Christian liturgical year.According to Christian scripture, Jesus was resurrected from the dead on the third day after his crucifixion. Some Christians celebrate this resurrection on Easter Day or Easter .Two days after Good Friday and three days after Maundy Thursday. The Chronology of his death and resurrection is variously interpreted to be between AD 26 and AD 36. Easter also refers to the season of the church year called Eastertide or the Easter Season. Traditionally the Easter Season lasted for the forty days from Easter Day until Ascension Day but now officially lasts for the fifty days until Pentecost. The first week of the Easter season is known as Easter Week or the Octave of Easter. Easter also marks the end of Lent the season of fasting, prayer, and penance.

3. Germany During Easter Time • The celebration of Easter (Ostern) in Germany is probably one of the most important events of the year. Many of the customs associated with its celebration are originally from this country, such as the use of decorated eggs and the Easter bunny. • But a few weeks before celebrating Easter in Germany, there is another spring event that is held in some parts of the country, such as in the Neckar Valley. It is called "Sommertagszug", which translates as "summer day parade".

OSTERMARKT A few weeks before Easter Sunday in Germany, you can also see in many towns an Easter Market, called Ostermarkt in German, where they sell decorated Easter eggs, chocolate eggs and bunnies, spring ornaments and more Easter crafts. Germans love to decorate their house and garden with Easter decorations.

OSTERMARKT • Many of these Easter decorations come directly from the pagan Frühlingfest's symbols of fertility such as the egg (Ei) and the rabbits (Hasen) that became the Ostereier (Easter eggs) and the Osterhasen (Easter bunnies). Other customs of Easter in Germany are the "Osterbaum" (the Easter Tree) and the "Osterbrunnen“ (Easter Fountain.)

6. Osterbaum • These Easter trees are either made of branches cut from pussy willows or other flowering bushes or are small living trees and bushes that are already planted around the house. In the case of the cut branches, they are usually brought in the house and put in a vase to be decorated with hand painted wooden eggs, hollowed out real eggs and little garlands. In the same way, the living trees and bushes outside the house are also decorated with plastic, wooden or real painted eggs and wreaths. It makes for a splash of colour in otherwise often grey spring days, giving the towns and cities a more festive atmosphere. Of course little Easter chocolate eggs are also left by the big Easter Bunny (Osterhase) around bushes and trees for kids to find on Easter Sunday. Another tradition introduced in North America by Germans settlers.

Osterbrunnen • The customs of the Easter fountain (or well) is found only in the German region called Franconia (Franken in German) which comprises: the northern part of Bavaria, North-west Baden-Württemberg and Südthüringen. It is an old tradition designed to celebrate the importance of water as a life giver and it is believed that the water that has been blessed on Easter Sunday has special powers. Throughout the year, women collect hollowed eggs, hand paint them and string them together to make colourful garlands that will be used to decorate the villages' central fountains. They also make arches and crowns of evergreen branches decorated with a few eggs and some times with little rabbits as well as roosters or hens. The crowns and arches are usually placed on the tip of the fountain. All these decorations come up a week or so before Easter Sunday and stay on the fountain for about a week after, making the town centre a very colourful and festive sight, especially on Saturday's Market with all the vendors stalls around it.

9. recipe-Easter Cheesecakes Ingredients: Directions : • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, softened to room temperature • 1/4 pound finely ground blanched almonds • 4 8-ounce packs cream cheese, room temperature • 1/2 cup heavy cream • 1 1/2 cups sugar • 4 large eggs, lightly beaten, room temperature • Grated zest of 1 lemon • Grated zest of 1 orange • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract • 8"-by-3"-inch cake pan • Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Butter an 8"-by-3"-inch cake pan and dust with ground almonds; set aside. • In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat cream cheese, heavy cream, and sugar until smooth. Add eggs and beat until incorporated. Beat in zests and vanilla. • Pour into prepared cake pan, and place in a large roasting pan. Transfer to oven rack, and carefully add enough boiling water to the roasting pan to come two-thirds up the side of the cake pan. • Bake until firm, about 2 hours, adding more boiling water if necessary. Turn off the oven; keep the oven door ajar using a wooden spoon. Let cake cool completely in the oven. • Transfer to refrigerator and chill overnight. Invert onto a plate; serve..

Recipe- Easter Cookies Ingredients : Directions : • 1-1/4 cups all purpose flour • pinch of salt • 1/4 cup of sugar • 1/2 finely ground almonds • 1 Tbsp. vanilla or almond extract • 1/3 cup butter, softened • 2 egg yolks • to finish: • powder sugar with a few drops of lemon juice, and 1 drop food colouring of whatever colour you want to decorate with, soft colours would be fine in this case, yellow, orange, pink, green, purple and orange. • Grease several baking sheets with butter. • Stir flour, salt and sugar in medium size bowl. • mix in almonds and vanilla or almond extract • Cut in butter until mixture resembles fine bread crumb • Add egg yolks and mix it form a soft dough. • Roll out dough on a floured surface, using a Easter egg cookie cutter .and cut out the figures. • Place slightly apart • Refrigerate unbaked for 30 minutes • Preheat oven to 350F • Bake for 15 to 20 min or until light brown. • Remove, when cool, decorate with a pipe and the colored sugar icing.

11. Recipe – Easter Bunny Ingredients : Directions : • 1 1/2 oz dark creme de cacao • 1/2 oz vodka • 1 tsp chocolate syrup • 1 tsp cherry brandy • Shake creme de cacao and vodka with ice. • Strain over ice in an old-fashioned glass. • Float chocolate syrup and cherry brandy.
