Vaccine update brief October focus on Influenza CDC (centers for disease control) UPDATE • In 2019, Flu vaccines better matched to circulating virus • All regular dose flu shots will be quadrivalent • All available vaccine is cell-grown (none produced in eggs) Pediatric Update: FDA approved either 0.25 ml or 0.5 ml for children 6 months to 35 months of age. Adolescent Workgroup Project updates • Support CA Preteen Vaccine 2020 Week: CDPH Conference calls, email updates to ICLAC partners • In progress: Discussions with Health Net and LA Care to identify provider groups or clinics identified to have low adolescent immunization coverage levels • Conversations with LA Trust to explore school based projects, resources needed • “Flu near you tool” a collaboration with Boston Children’s Hospital to roll out in LA County Estimated vaccination coverage with selected vaccines and doses* among adolescents aged 13–17 years, by survey year and Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommendations† — National Immunization Survey (N= 18,700) –Teen (NIS-Teen), United States, 2006–2018 https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/68/wr/mm6833a2.htm#F1_down

Adult Workgroup Community-Based Adult Services (CBAS) Appreciation: • Pfizer grant sponsorship • Key partners: California Department of Aging, Health Services Advisory Group, and CA Adult Day Services organization, UCLA School of Public Health, Office of Health Assessment (LA County Department of Public Health) and ICLAC volunteers Goal of Study: This study will survey the 148 LA County CBAS centers to evaluate policies and practices used to assess vaccinations for Medi-Cal participants with a primary focus on influenza and pneumococcal vaccines. Update: • Baseline Immunization survey in final development and pilot phase, graduate student CBAS intern will be hired and analysis of results will direct next steps.

Healthy Pregnancy Healthy Babies • Tdap(tetanus diphtheria and acellular pertussis) and influenza vaccination rates remain low (by a self report 2018 study). • Opportunities remain for collaboration to improve rates and healthy outcomes. • Project to identify interested clinics, WIC centers and local pharmacy vendors to close the immunization gaps in the obstetric population; currently in design phase. cdc.gov/mmwr.Influenza and Tdap Vaccination Coverage among pregnant women-United States, April 2018 Sept 28, 2018/67(38);1055-1059
