Uses will, preference, necessity, hope, desire, giving advice • verbs (followed by subjunctive): desear, decir, exigir, mandar, insistir, necesitar, preferir, pedir, querer, rogar, querer, recomendar, sugerir, insistir (en) • 1. Yo prefiero quevengas a las trece. • 2. Mi madre insiste que (nos.) hagamos la cena. • 3. Les pido quesaquen la basura. • 4. Quiero que mi compañero gane un millón de dólares.

  4. Uses emotion, judgement • verbs (followed by subjunctive): esperar, alegrarse (de), sentir, sorprender, temer, tener miedo, gustar, molestar, ojalá (que), es ridículo/terrible/triste/extraño/una lastima • 1. Me alegro de que mis padres quieran ayudarme. • 2. Ojalá que yo pueda encontrar mis llaves. • 3. Es terrible que tu madre esté enferma. • 4. Le sorprende queno vayan a Cancún este año.

  5. Uses doubt, denial, uncertainty • verbs (followed by subjunctive): dudar, negar, no creer, no estar seguro/a (de), no es cierto/seguro/verdad/posible/probable, es imposible/improbable • 1. No es cierto que los estudiantes no estudien. • 2. Es imposible quevaya a Francia con nosotros. • 3. Yo dudo que todos vengan a clase el viernes. • 4. No estoy seguro de que mi familia sea normal.

  6. Spelling Changes • For verbs that end in -zar, the z changes to c when it comes before the letter e. • empezar (e:ie) empiece empieces empiece empecemos empiecen • For verbs that end in -ger or -gir, the g changes to j when it comes before the letter a. • escoger escoja escojas escoja escojamos escoj�s escojanelegir (e:i) elija elijas elija elijamos elijan • For verbs that end in -guir, the gu changes to g when it comes before the letter a. • seguir (e:i) siga sigas siga sigamos sigan
