  1. The Scientific Revolution Merina Viviano 5th block

  2. Scientific Revolution • Before , scholars generally decided what was true or false by referring to an ancient Greek or Roman author or to the Bible. The Scientific Revolution was a new way of thinking about the natural world. That way was based upon careful observation and a willingness to question accepted beliefs. In the mid-1500s, scientists began to question accepted beliefs and make new theories based on experimentation. Scientists' questioning led to the development of the scientific method which is still in use today. • Scientific Revolution started when a small group of scholars began to question about the geocentric theory.

  3. Why the spread of scientific knowledge was so difficult. • The spread of scientific and mathematical math was difficult because after astronomers explored the secrets of the universe, other scientists began to study the secrets of nature of the earth. The observations that they created and the use of scientific method eventually became important in many fields. Scientists developed new tools and instruments to make the precise observations that the scientific method had given. During the middle ages, European doctors had accepted as fact for the writings of an ancient Greek physician named Galen. Galen had studied the anatomy of pigs and other animals. So he assumed that the human anatomy was pretty much the same. There were many other people who used the scientific method in their daily life. Other scholars and philosophers applied a scientific approach to other areas in life. Believing themselves to be orderly: rational, and industrious, they thought of themselves as enlightened. They would become the leaders of a new intellectual and social movement called the Enlightenment.

  4. Why Scientists found it difficult to share their discoveries with the world. • One of the scientists (named Galileo) findings frightened both Catholic and Protestant leaders because his findings went against church teaching and authority. Back then the catholic church disagreed on the new ideas that the Bible didn’t state or wasn’t what the church said. So any ideas spread that wasn’t said in the bible or wasn’t what the church said would cause the person to get into major trouble with the church and that’s what happened to Galileo. He got punished for it. For scientists, they have to be careful on what they say about their thoughts. Because you never know if it could offend anyone and if it did offend society then people will disapprove their thoughts and beliefs. That’s why it was so difficult for scientists.

  5. Favorite Quote!!!(: • “And from true lordship it follows that the true God is living, intelligent, and powerful; from the other perfections, that he is supreme, or supremely perfect. He is eternal and infinite, omnipotent and omniscient; that is, he endures from eternity to eternity; and he is present from infinity to infinity; he rules all things, and he knows all things that happen or can happen.” This quote was said by Sir Isaac Newton. I really like this quote because I think everything he said there is the truth. I am a Christian; therefore, I love God dearly and I respect anyone who talks like Isaac did about him! He is my one and only! (:
