HFICD Mission • Provide a forum for the exchange of technical information for practitioners within the field • Provide mechanisms for training and education for individuals entering the field or practitioners improving their skills • Serve as an advocated for advancing HFIC technology and/or practice within the nuclear arena • Serve as a point-of-access for external inquiries into nuclear HFIC technology and/or practices

  3. The HFICD focuses on the information processing, control and human-system interaction aspects of nuclear systems. This includes the sensors that transduce physical processes into signals, the monitoring, control and communications systems that process data into information and manage control and protective actions, the interfaces that display plant operational and health information, and the human cognitive capabilities that enable perception and interpretation of information.   7. Current Financial Status Website substantially updated; HFICD pamphlet published Endowment of HFICD scholarship continuing based on conference proceeds (NPIC&HMIT 2009 & 2010) Student support includes conference sponsorship and travel support for student member of HFICD ExCom

Division Planning & Communications • Division initiatives address several areas • Continued membership growth • Technical information exchange • Mentoring and financial support • Expanded member services • Redesigned website & pamphlet published • Recent newsletter addressed HFIC technical observations from Fukushima Dai-ichi event • Division to contribute to end-of-year Nuclear News Instrumentation and Controls special section [similar to 2008 & 2009 contributions]

HFICD Meetings Facilitate Division Growth • National meeting participation expanding • Recent embedded topical (NPIC&HMIT 2010 – 226 full papers) • Digital I&C tracks developed/planned for 2011 Utility Working Conference and embedded topical on SMRs • 2009 NPIC&HMIT extremely successful (355 participants, 250 presentations) • 2012 NPIC&HMIT (San Diego) planning well underway • Discussions with Asian & European societies for collaboration on annual rotating conference
