What is a screen cast….? • A screen cast is a video that allows you to take the images from a computer screen along with someone talking about what’s being shown. • The video and audio components can make a topic more engaging than written instructions or static images, while also appealing to different learning styles • Screen casts can be easily distributed via blog posts, RSS feeds, tags, and social media video hosts

  3. History of Screencasting • Invented the word “screencast” in 2004  • Had used the software Lotus ScreenCam and Windows Media Encoder • Put together the famous early example of a screencast, “Heavy Metal Umlaut” Jon Udell Lead Analyst for the InfoWorld Test Center

Ways to use it in the classroom… • View what students are doing in classroom. • Absent students can get same directions and visual as students present. • Sub can see how to use software used in your classroom • Exchange different software advice. • Explain a website. • Analyze a concept through a software on the computer • Teach parents how to navigate software and websites • Narrate presentations in PowerPoint • Narrate demonstrations of how to use a program • Video of technical problems to send to technical support
