Status o the RA VI new management and structure • 10 Sept 2010, President RA VIletter to the PRs with • the attached list of the WGs / TTsmembers • with the kind request to review the attached list and • note the members from their countries • informing the PRs that • the TTare established to deal with a specific subject andshould be dissolved upon completion of the task • new task teams could be established during the intersession period if a specific issue of regional importance needs to be addressed by a group of experts • the TTwill be considered as in-kind contribution of the NMHSs ICEED10th Session, Istanbul, 21-22 September 2010

RA VI Strategic / Action plan • The Association agreed that the strategic planning • process should continue in view of the need to align -the regional Strategic/Action Plan with -the new WMO Strategic Plan (2012–2015) • As a highest priority task for the next intersession • period, association recognized the implementation of • the • RA VI Strategic / Action Plan (2008-2011) • new RA VI Strategic/Action Plan (2012-2015) • To support the implementation, the Members were • encouraged to develop their national Action Plans • in line with the regional Strategic Plan ICEED10th Session, Istanbul, 21-22 September 2010

Priorities of the region • RA VI stated priority to play a major role in the • Global Framework of Climate Services (GFCS) • RA VI Network of Regional Climate Centres (RCCs) establishment has been initiated • Regional implementation plan targeting the Network by the end of 2011 has been endorsed • RA VI RCC Network structure includes three nodes each node supportedby a consortium of NMHSs with one of them identified as the lead institution • DWD, Germany, will take over the overall • coordination of the WMO RA VI RCC Network ICEED10th Session, Istanbul, 21-22 September 2010

Priorities of the region • In order to provide effectiveand efficient support to • RA VI Members • - functions of the Regional Office for Europe(ROE) • have been enhanced • ROE activities are focused on • bridging the gaps • harmonization of the level of NMHSs through • capacity-building activities • technology transfer from the developed to developing parts of the Region ICEED10th Session, Istanbul, 21-22 September 2010

Priorities of the region WMO Mission to Albania in coordination with World Bank • Need for the mission has been identified through the findings and recommendations of several preceding technical missions and assessments carried out during the period 2003 – 2010 • Joint missionto Albania of the WMO • (President RA VI, Office for Europe, Resource Mobilization Office ) and the • World Bank was realized • 29 VI - 2 VII 2010 • in order to facilitate proper structuring and the performance,mission and role of the Albanian NMHS up to the WMO regulations ICEED10th Session, Istanbul, 21-22 September 2010

Priorities of the region Improving the links with the Mediterranean sub-region of RA VI • Improved cooperation with RA VI Members in the extreme South-Eastern part (Lebanon, Jordan, Syria) is planned with the help of the RA II Sub-regional Office in Bahrain • Official visit of the President of RA VI and the WMO Secretariat (Office for Europe) to Jordan or Bahrein to facilitatejoined activities of the Office for Europe with the Sub-regional Office of RA II relating to RA VI members that are close related to the Office in Bahrain ICEED10th Session, Istanbul, 21-22 September 2010

  27. Challenges of the region • Association has identified major challenges for • RA VI Members • data policy • implementation of the Single European Sky and related effects on the provision of aeronautical meteorological services • relationship between the NMHSs and the private service providers due to their • impact on the way services are provided by NMHSs • lack of a harmonized regional approachto tackle them ICEED10th Session, Istanbul, 21-22 September 2010
