  2. punishment • The state takes out prisoners and hung them until they are half dead.

  3. punishment • After they got hung to the point were they were almost dead they would take them down and their members and bowels are cut from their bodies, and thrown into a fire while they are still alive.

  4. punishment • If someone be convicted of wilful murder, done either upon pretended malice or in any notable robbery, he is either hanged alive in chains near the place where the fact was committed (or else upon compassion taken, first strangled with a rope), and so continueth till his bones consume to nothing.

  5. punishment • When wilful manslaughter is perpetrated, beside hanging, the offender hath his right hand commonly stricken off before or near unto the place where the act was done, after which he is led forth to the place of execution, and there put to death according to the law."

  7. Cruel punishment • Sometimes depends on what you do they will lay down sharp rocks and you would have to lay down on them and they would put a board on your breast and put weights down and press the board and crush the body until they are dead

Some of the punishments • Hanging • Burning • The Pillory and the Stocks • Whipping • Branding • Pressing • Ducking stools • The Wheel • Boiling in oil water or lead (usually reserved for poisoners ) • Starvation in a public place • Cutting off various items of the anatomy - hands, ears etc • The Gossip's Bridle or the Brank • The Drunkards Cloak

  10. Most common crimes • The most common crimes were theft, cut purses, begging, poaching, adultery, debtors, forgers, and fraud. Theft for stealing anything over 5 pence resulted in hanging.
