  1. Lab 8: Map Layout window- use asset up to Print Maps You have been asked to create a professional looking map of your study area. The map must include a legend, north arrow, and scale bar. How will you create this professional map using MapInfo? In this lesson, you will learn how to create a layout with the following components: Map body, title, legend, north arrow, scalebar, & prepared by You will also learn some attributes of “good” map design.

  2. Components of a Map: Title: Subject matter, date of data, & by what geography North arrow (optional) Map body Legend: explain symbols, color, patterns used. For thematic legends: Legend title = UNITS used, Ascending or descending order Scalebar (optional) Source: Who, what, when Prepared by: who, include date prepared

To create a layout for printing: After you have opened the desired data layers to your map, you are ready to create the layout: 1 Select Window> New Layout Window 2 Select appropriate frame option (usually One Frame) 3 Select OK and the Layout window appears 1 2 3 4 Use the text tool to add titles, source, and prepared by- to the layout 5 Use the frame tool to add other open map windows, legend, or browsers to the layout 6 To print: select File> Print 5 4

  4. You are now ready to begin MapInfo Exercise- Lab 8 • Layout window- to print maps.
