Purpose • Attached to end of line to attract fish • Resemble and mimic the fish prey • After casting, retrieving the hook acts as thought the prey is moving in the water • Can be made of wood, plastic, rubber, metal, cork, and materials like feathers, animal hair, string, tinsel and others. They can have many moving parts or no moving parts. They can be retrieved fast or slow
Jigs • Most common • Sink, jerk it up, and let it sink again • A weighted hook with a lead head opposite the sharp tip. They are often covered with a minnow or crawfish or even a plastic worm to get the fish's attention. The operator moves the rod to make the jig move.
Spinner Baits • A treble hook and a blade that spins through the water • Pieces of wire bent at about a 60 degree angle with a hook on the lower end and a flashy spinner mechanism on the upper end
Spoons/Blades • Wobbles or flutters upon retrieval • Made to resemble the inside of a table spoon. They flash in the light while wobbling or darting due to their shape, and attract fish
Rapalas Plug • Name Brand of a lure • Popular • Designed to resemble a live fish • The action of the angler causes it to dip, dive, rattle, and trash
Plastic Worms • soft plastic bait • Trophy Bass • Difficult to use correctly • Work best in clear, warm water
Worms • Don’t dump leftover bait worms in the soil, they are typically non-native and may become invasive.

Bobbers • Hold bait at the right level • Detect bites • Styrofoam or hollow plastic.
Sinkers • Weights to get bait and hook under water • Avoid lead as it poisons wildlife
Snaps and Swivels • Snaps are used ti connect a hook or lure to line • Swivels are used to prevent the line from twisting
