  2. What is an action verb? • A verb is one of the most important parts of a sentence. It tells the reader what the subject is doing. It is always found in the predicate of a sentence.

  4. Can you find the action verb in each sentence? • The dog chased the cat around the house. 2. Children like playing games. 3. Their teacher wrote the answers on the board. 4. I was working on my homework this morning. Check your answers!

  7. Action verbs types • Past tense Verbs that tell about an action or actions that happened a while ago are called past tense action verbs. Example: The boy wantedan ice cream cone. Wanted is a past tense verb because the action already happened

  8. Action verb types cont. • Present Tense A verb that describes an action happening now is called a present tense action verb. Example: The dog is chasing the cat. Chasing is the present tense action verb because the dog is doing it right now.

  9. Action verb types cont. • Future tense A verb that describes something happening in the future is called a future tense action verb. Example: We will be shoveling snow in the winter. Shoveling is the future tense action verb because it tells of an action we will be doing another time.
