FACT ONEWhat is the transportation revolution? • The transportation revolution is the rapid growth in the speed and convenience of transportation. • It helped create a boom in business across the country which sped up travel. It also reduced shipping time and shipping rates between the East and the West.

  3. FACT TWOCanals • Canals connected major trading and manufacturing centers, but they were very expensive to make and they were not well-maintained.

  5. FACT THREEClipper Ships • Clipper ships were sleek and tall-masted sailing ships that traveled at great speeds but eventually died out.

  9. FACT FIVETrains • Trains had the largest economic impact on the United States and was built as one of the fasted forms of transportation. • There was more than 30,000 miles of Rail Road.

  11. Why did it happen? • Canals, roads, and railroads needed to be built across the country to connect regions and markets, improving the economy. Each of the three economic regions needed a faster and more affordable way to transport goods.
