Line Rate Non Blocking • There are 2 components required to achieve line rate non blocking performance • Backplane connectivity • To deliver 48 GE of connectivity the traces to the backplane must provide in excess of this to allow for internal overhead • E600 / E1200 per slot capacity is 56.25Gbps • Force10 can scale this in the future to over 150Gbps using the existing backplane and new switch fabrics • Packet Processing • To process enough packets to fill the links the ASIC’s must be capable of processing the packets • For 48 x GE = 48 x 1,488,095 = 71,428,560Mpps • For 4 x 10GE = 4 x 14,880,952 = 59,523,808Mpss • TeraScale FPCE can process 72Mpps
