  1. ITEM 7 – Casualty / Personal Injury Collision Data 2008 • There were a total of 1,129 casualties injured or killed in 993 personal injury road traffic collisions in Croydon last year. • The 2008 casualty figure is now the lowest since records have been kept and is approximately 1.4% lower than that achieved in 2007. • Of the 1,129 casualties 4 people were killed and 132 were seriously injured. The remaining 997 casualties sustained slight injuries. The total number of people killed in 2008 is also the lowest on record. • A total of 97 children/young people were injured in road traffic collisions in 2008. One of the collisions resulted in a fatality, the first in 6 years, and 15 were of a serious nature, this figure was up slightly on previous years. The remaining child casualties sustained slight injuries. • Comparing the 2008 figures against the 2010 casualty reduction targets provides the following: • The total number of people killed or seriously injured (KSI) in 2008 is 46% below the 1994 to 1998 average (against which the 2010 reduction target). The 2010 target for total KSI’ is a 50% reduction over the 1994/98 average. • The total number of children killed or seriously injured (KSI) in 2008 is 62% below the 1994 to 1998 average. The 2010 target for child KSI’ is a 60% reduction over the 1994/98 average. • The total number of people slightly injured in 2008 is 3% below the 1994 to 1998 average. The 2010 target for slightly injured casualties is a 25% reduction over the 1994/98 average. • The graphs overleaf show the casualty trends and progression toward the 2010 target. CRSP150709
