  1. Introducing…Brooke Seidman!

  2. Welcome! • You are about to participate in an optional, professional development course. • Even though this is not a mandated course, I still think it’s important to have an understanding of who your instructor is.

  3. Brooke’s Brief Background (gotta love alliterations!) • My name is Brooke Seidman. • My parents are extremely into the environment and my sister (Dawn) and I have earth inspired names. • I love being outside, especially in autumn.

  4. Southern Belle • I am natural born Floridian from the city of Plantation. • I have lived in a 20 mile radius for practically my entire life!

  5. It’s Great, To Be, A Florida Gator!!! • I graduated from the University of Florida last May with a degree in Political Science. • I also undertook minors in Anthropology and Secondary Education. • I was a senator at UF in 2005. • Currently I am getting my Master’s in Educational Technology at UF! NATIONAL CHAMPS!!!

  6. My Journey • I started out in political science, but quickly learned how easy it can be to get corrupted. • I ventured into anthropology to find out more about people and their motives. • I decided the best place to enact positive changes would be in education.

  7. Instructional Design • I thought, I could be a teacher and really make a difference, but I wanted to do more. • What better way to change the system, than to instruct the teachers how to teach? • Instructional Design allows me to improve upon teaching methods, thus enacting some positive changes!

  8. Learning Style • I am a visual learner. • Show me how to do something, and then let me try it myself. • To figure out what learning style you are, visit http://www.engr.ncsu.edu/learningstyles/ilsweb.html

  9. Influences • People who inspire me usually are well-spoken, passionate, and intelligent. • One of my role models is Senator Clinton, as I think she embodies these particular traits.

  10. Inspirations & Influences • John Dewey • Jonathon Kozal • Jim Henson • Jon Stewart • Steve Jobs

  11. Simple Pleasures, somewhat pathetic I admit… • I am addicted to coffee and coffee products. • I also love cheese to the point where people ask me if I was a mouse in a past life. • I also have an embarrassing addiction to soap operas, namely Days of Our Lives.

  12. Travels • I am part Hungarian and Czech. • I studied abroad in Prague (located in the Czech Republic) and fell in love with the city. • The next couple of slides show the absolute beauty of this region. • I personally like the juxtaposition of contemporary society(fast paced, modern city life) and old world culture (structures, buildings, etc.)

  13. Prague- Wenceslas Square

  14. One of Many Market Places

  15. Prague- Downtown (Mustek)

  16. Stressed Out? • When I need to relax, I often close my eyes and imagine myself strolling in Prague or Budapest. One street you feel like you are in a fairy tale, then you turn the corner and feel like you are in Manhattan! It is crazy!

  17. Contact Information • If you have any questions at all when you are going through this course, please feel free to contact me at brooke83@ufl.edu

  18. The End!!! • All pictures used in this presentation I took myself or I obtained from Microsoft ClipArt. • http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/clipart/default.aspx?cag=1 • http://www.engr.ncsu.edu/learningstyles/ilsweb.html (Soloman, Felder, 1999)
