  1. MPM 2D Linear Systems Test Solutions

  2. KU out of 10 • a) (4, 500) b) Company B • a) Infinite (rearrange into the same line) -x + y = 4 2y – 2x = 8 b) 1st blank  -x, 2nd blank  anything but 4 needs to be parallel!! c) No, not a solution  use LS = RS does not work for the 3x + y =1 equation 3. X = 50 (vertical line passing through (50, 30)

  3. KU out of 10 (con’t) 4. y = 3x + b 0 = 3(200) + b -600 = b y = 3x - 600 • Sketch system with no solution (parallel lines)

  4. Question 6 – Level 2+

  5. Question #7a – Level 2+ Solution is

  6. Question # 7b - Level 2+ Solution is (0, 3)

  7. Question #8 – Level 3+ • Is point P a solution ...? Explain. YES!! A solution is a point of intersection (or where two lines meet). Even though one is a curve they meet (intersect) at point P. Therefore, it is a solution. • How many solutions are there ...? Explain. There are 2 solutions to this system. The line intersects with the curve in two locations (point P and point Q).

  8. Question # 9 – Level 3+ System of Equations is ... B = # of basic calculators G = # of graphing calculators B + G = 25  represent # of calculators 8B + 118G = 1410  represents cost Solution is 14 basic calculators, and 11 graphing calculators. (Due to system set up – elimination is best method!!)

  9. Question # 10a – Level 3 System of Equations: n = # of kg of 30% nitrogen N = # of kg of 15% nitrogen N + n = 600 0.3n + 0.15N = 120  120 = 0.2(600) Solution: There is 200kg of 30% nitrogen and 400kg of 15% nitrogen in the mix.

  10. Question # 10b – Level 3+ System of Equations: G = price / kg of gummy worms R = price / kg of rockets 0.5G+0.3R = 6.00 2(0.5G) + 2(0.5R) = 16.00 G + R = 16.00 Solution: The gummy worms were originally priced at $6 / kg, and the rockets at $10 / kg.

  11. Question #11 • Graph Bell – get equation and r-value for line of best fit • Graph Rogers – get equation and r-value for line of best fit **Graph both on the same set of axis • Find P.O.I. On calculator • Discuss P.O.I based on scenario, and discuss accuracy of recommendation based on r-values
