  6. Downsides of The Food Pyramid • Problems with The Food Pyramid • All fats are considered unhealthy • No differentiation between good/bad carbohydrates • Considers protein sources equal in value • Dairy products are considered essential • Does not emphasize exercise

  9. Why was MyPyramid created? • To deal with skyrocketing obesity rates • To provide easier guidelines to follow and understand I wish The Food Pyramid was more helpful!

  11. What sets MyPyramid apart from The Food Pyramid • MyPyramid stresses importance of eating healthy • Focuses on specific food groups • Also foods within each group • Emphasizes whole grain foods • Emphasizes lean meats • Emphasizes healthy fats

  21. Why was MyPlate created? • MyPyramid was considered too confusing and too difficult to understand • To combat obesity rates • To better educate the public • To provide simple guidelines to follow.

  22. Skepticism… Yes, I feel the same way too. Now, this is much easier to understand.

  23. MyPlate Explained Dinner plate is used because it is simple to imagine and follow Dinner plate is used to allow for easy measurement of food Varying sizes of food groups on dinner plate is used to emphasize portion control.
