Major applications • The main application of the fuel injector is in the management system of internal combustion engines. • The fuel injector controls the flow of the fuel into the combustion area. • The engines vary in size and use several different types of fuels. • Some types of fuels are: diesel, natural gas, propane, automotive, and many more.   7. Injectors come in a variety of sizes • This manufacture uses the color of band to indicate the flow rate and nozzle design. • Shown: Weber IWP069 “Pico" top feed injector. It is a production component with a single hole ‘cone’ spray pattern and a wide range of applications for engines typically up to 85bhp per cylinder ECE5320 Mechatronics. Working Principle continued • The injector has power from the time the system is initialized, by turning the key to the on position • The Electronic control module (ECM), controls the ground side on the circuit to actuate the solenoid of the injector • The solenoid pulls the pinnacle back to allow the fuel be released through the nozzle • This is done several times a minute, based on sensor feedback and ECM programming ECE5320 Mechatronics.
