Why SELECT HVAC? 1: Stop the HVAC installation madness by a joint utility effort between Platte River Power Authority (Loveland, Fort Collins, Estes Park, & Longmont) and Poudre Valley REA (surrounds the four cities) 2: Create a reliable list of qualified contractors for customer reference 3: Secure qualified HVAC Contractors for joint effort projects (load Management, Energy Star New Homes, HVAC Rebates, Care Fund, etc.)
  3. HVAC Madness We See Every Day! The Utility receives a call from a consumer: comfort problem, high energy use, air quality concern, safety concern, performance problems, etc.) A visit is made to the consumer’s property to review the energy use issues and investigate the overall situation. HVAC concerns found directly related to a lack of proper system commissioning: Improperly matched equipment / wrong size installed Improperly sized and designed ductwork Unsealed ductwork / disconnected ductwork Failure to properly complete and test out operation of the system resulting in too little/too much airflow, improper refrigerant charge, poor combustion settings, no filters/too many filters, noise, installed equipment altered / damaged by others, premature equipment failure & uncomfortable conditions Lack of understanding by end-user of thermostat control, need for filter attention, general equipment operation, location of equipment manuals, and failure to know when to contact a contractor . Total lack of maintenance or incorrect maintenance if never commissioned Safety issues due to improper flue configurations, back drafting and improper placement of furnace/water heater.
  4. Its Time To Recognize The Sane Contractors that Adhere to Industry Required Methods! Installation, maintenance and repair of today’s heating and cooling equipment is complex, requiring skills in: Refrigeration Combustion operation & safety Electrical wiring & electronics Sheet metal fabrication & piping Air flow management & fluid dynamics System engineering & field commissioning

What Does It Take To Be A SELECT HVAC Contractor To be included on the SELECT HVAC list, a Contractor must sign a contract agreeing to: Maintain all required licenses Maintain Proper Insurance Comply with the SELECT HVAC Code of Ethics Hold any special certification required by Platte River or PVREA for energy incentive offerings or specific technology applications Comply with all pertinent commissioning standards

What Does It Take To Be A SELECT HVAC Contractor Maintain an “Accredited Business” status with the Better Business Bureau Honor all manufacturer and contractor warranties Attend required SELECT HVAC training classes Agree to third party inspections and utility evaluations to verify program compliance Have the will to grow your business
  7. Progress To Date Presently 12 Contractors participating out of 101 known eligible firms in Northern Colorado. Tech classes conducted by Front Range Community College Active referral list for customers Giving customers an opportunity to obtain “best practice” HVAC service Contractors now being used for Utility program delivery Promotion via web site development, bill stuffers, customer news letters, Colorado Country Life magazine, truck decals, news paper ads, etc. Increased professionalism among HVAC participants Allow contractors to differentiate themselves and to pursue proper payment for superior work performed.
