  3. It’s the car or nothing • Minorities? • Settled case for two million dollars • 50% problem with gang bangers • 90% troublesome teens • Fagin

  4. “We think of malls as being wholesome and all-American, but they are not uniformly so. Some are also snobbish, xenophobic, elitist. Hateful. But we’re still going to spend the day here.”

  5. City-Walking • Eye level and below • Cover about 300 feet per minute • Eyes quickly move from side to side • Older person more conscience of where feet are • Children move their heads more (8 year olds spot cameras) • Upper floors hidden in plain sight

  6. Shibuya Square

  7. Meandering in the mall • Smooth surface • No obstacles or surprises • No bicycles, taxis, career women storming past (only shoppers) • No bad weather, crime (that we see), no spitters or cigarette-butt flickers, no dogs • In the city men walk faster than women in the mall it is reversed • More relaxed • More conversation

  8. Lost in the mall • Don’t ask for directions • Maps stink • Average study time 22 seconds • Good map • Horizontal like table top, waist level, symbols
