  1. Making ICT Accessible Beyond the School Walls Making ICT Accessible Beyond the School Walls - Mr N. Obee - March 2013

  2. So… you’re behind on your coursework, struggling to meet deadlines and the FWA has just shut for the evening. You desperately need to access some online content and carry on with your project, but don’t have an internet connection at home or a computer. Sounds like you’re out of options huh…? ` WRONG!! From the research that we have done, we know that almost all of you have a smartphone or smart wifi enabled device, such as laptop, netbook, tablet or iPod touch. If you have one of the above named devices help is at hand. Your teachers will have been telling you to store a lot of your school content “in the cloud” recently. This means that your projects that you’re working on at school that you’ve saved into your Google Drive and MBC (My Big Campus) Stuff is accessible from any internet connected device. 3. Now because we know also know from our research that many of you do not have a home internet connection, we’ve done a little bit of research ourselves. Out and about in locations all over Southampton are Wifi Hotspots. These highspeed Hotspots provide internet access to thousands of people and businesses. Many of these services are free (although it should be noted that this is not always the case). One of these services is called “The Cloud”, run by Sky. You can register for a free “Cloud” account by going to - https://service.thecloud.net/service-platform/login/registration/ The school cannot stress enough the importance of following the e-safety guidelines that we promote to you in school and recommend supervision from your parent/carer where possible as using a hotspot is a shared internet connection. If you require advice or help with this please see the school’s e-safety co-ordinator, Mrs Crew. Making ICT Accessible Beyond the School Walls - Mr N. Obee - March 2013
