  1. Comparison Between Central Corneal Thickness Measurements in Healthy Eyes Using a New Device and 2 Other Methods Klinik und Poliklinik für Augenheilkunde R. Khoramnia, J. P. Salgado, C.P. 2. Klinik und Poliklinik für Augenheilkunde Purpose • The TMS-5 (Tomey) is a new device for the examination of the anterior eye segment combining Placido- and Scheimpflug-Technology. The purpose of this study was to compare central corneal thickness (CCT) measurements using TMS-5, LenStar/Allegro Biograph (Haag-Streit/WaveLight), and the gold standard ultrasonic pachymetry(Pachymeter SP-3000, Tomey). 3. Klinik und Poliklinik für Augenheilkunde Material and methods 48 eyes of 24 healthy volunteers were included in this comparative study. In all eyes, CCT was measured with the TMS-5 (Tomey, Nagoya, Japan), LenStar (Haag-Streit AG, Koeniz, Switzerland)/Allegro Biograph (WaveLight AG, Erlangen, Germany), and ultrasonic pachymetry (Pachymeter SP-3000, Tomey, Nagoya, Japan). The values obtained from the different devices were compared using Bland-Altman plots and linear regression.

  4. Klinik und Poliklinik für Augenheilkunde Results I The mean CCT readings with the TMS-5, LenStar/Allegro Biograph, and ultrasound were 516.6 µm, 535.7 µm, and 543.6 µm, respectively. Regression analysis showed a high correlation between the values obtained with the TMS-5 and the LenStar/Allegro Biograph (r=0.950, p<0.001) and the values obtained with the TMS-5 and ultrasound (r=0.918, p<0.001).

  5. Klinik und Poliklinik für Augenheilkunde Results II Compared to the LenStar/Allegro Biograph and ultrasound, the TMS-5 underestimated the CCT. The mean differences were -19.1 µm compared to the LenStar/Allegro Biograph and -27.0 µm compared to ultrasound as shown in the Bland-Altman plots.

  6. Klinik und Poliklinik für Augenheilkunde Conclusion • Regression analysis showed a high correlation between the values obtained with the TMS-5 and the LenStar/Allegro Biograph and the values obtained with the TMS-5 and ultrasound. • However, the TMS-5 underestimated the CCT compared to the LenStar/Allegro Biograph and ultrasound. • Therefore, the TMS-5, LenStar/Allegro Biograph, and ultrasound should not be used interchangeably for the measurement of CCT.
