IUG International Relations ENVIRONMENTAL AND RURAL RESEARCH CENTER, FACULTY OF SCIENCE • Established in 1991 to contribute in developing environmental research studies and to serve the Palestinian community • The Center developed co-operative relations with many external and international organization UNDP, UNRWA, British Council, EU-Programs {Med Campus, Life and INCO-MED}, Robens-UK, Regional and European Universities and others

SELECTED CONDUCTED PROJECTS: • Project title: Accommodation of natural methods for wastewater treatment in Gaza Strip- Quality control of drinking and used water” 1992 - 1993. • Funded from EU through Med-Campus program. • The project partners were Kassel University – Germany and Middlesex University- U.K

  17. Three years training program (1995-1997) in water and wastewater sector: • Financed from Germany Government through Carl DuisbergGesellschaft – CDG (InWent). • More than 150 Palestinian from different governmental and NGOs organization benefit from the program.

  18. Project title: Sea Water and Beach Quality Assessment- Gaza Strip- (1998- 2001): • Funded through AGFUND (Arabian Gulf Fund) with cooperation of United Nation University (UNU), International Network on Water Environment and Health (INWEH). • Project Activities: Field work, Training, Laboratory testing, Data processing, Public awareness programs, Capacity building for undergraduate students, Results Disseminating Activities (poster, leaflets design and production, workshop, reports).

  19. Project title: Policy Guidelines for Sustainable Wastewater Management in the Gaza Strip (2000-2002). • Funded through EC-Life Third Countries Program-European Commission with cooperation of Germany (CDG) and Morocco (ONEP) partners. • Project objectives: Develop and to set up waste management guidelines on effluent and reuse standards.

  20. Project title: Sustainable Water Management in Mediterranean Coastal Aquifers: Recharge Assessment and Modeling (SWIMED) 2003-2005 • Project partners were Spain, Cyprus, Italy, France, Switzerland, Tunisia, Morocco and Palestine. • Funded through the European Community, INCO – MED Program. • Main objectives were: Development of an integrated approach coupling models to GIS, optimisation aspects and effects of artificial recharge and seawater intrusion in coastal groundwater systems, • A special web site constructed to present all findings http://www.crs4.it/EIS/SWIMED/menu/index.html
