  1. ON-LOCATION WASTEWATER TREATMENT BY PlanetDISK®Rotating Biological Contactor-RBC UNITSmanufactured by PlanetDISK Compact Wastewater Treatment Units

  2. At locations where there is no central sewage line and infrastructure, compact WWT units runs to rescue. Among all technologies and systems, there is one that is preferred the most: Rotating Biological Contactor RBC This is where the revolution begins! PlanetDISK Compact Wastewater Treatment Units

  3. What is RBC? • What makes RBC so perfect is the shear simplicity behind its design. • PlanetDISK® RBC Unit is a fixed film reactor system consisting of circular disks made of non-corrosive,virgin, High Density PolyPropylene (HDPP), mounted on a solid chrome coated steel shaft rotating at speeds less than 5rpm. • During the rotation, 40% of the disks are immersed in wastewater. PlanetDISK Compact Wastewater Treatment Units

  4. How does RBC treat the Wastewater? • The rotation of the rotor exposes biomass on disks tooxygen, allowing organisms to multiply. The dissolved oxygen and organic materials in wastewater diffuse into the biomass to be metabolized. • Biomass thickness may vary between 1-2.5 mm and excess biomass shears off at a steady rate by gravity as the disks turn. • Small amount of biomass (TSS) is collected at the final clarifier. PlanetDISK Compact Wastewater Treatment Units

  5. Rotation RBC water About 40% is submerged Tank How does RBC treat the Wastewater? In simple…. • The bacteria in wastewater act as cleaners • The organical load in wastewater is bacteria‘s food • The bacterias eat and digest eachother. The converted suspensors are removed as sludge. • Clear water remains at the end of the process PlanetDISK Compact Wastewater Treatment Units

  8. PlanetDISK®Biological Domestic Wastewater Treatment Unit • As concerns over water scarcity grow,so does your need to treat the wastewater economically, at dependable, consistent quality. • Authorities are more strict then ever to protect the environment. Amount of stiff penalties are increasing steadily. • You need superior performance without having to hire qualified personell and pay high energy bills! • PlanetDISK® is ready to meet and exceed your expectations at all the criteria! PlanetDISK Compact Wastewater Treatment Units

  9. PlanetDISK®Biological Domestic Wastewater Treatment Unit • Treats domestic wastewater at European effluent standards. • Simple and economical to run. • Saves 80% energy compared to other conventional methods. • Requires upto 50% less space. • Provides consistent treatment results. PlanetDISK Compact Wastewater Treatment Units

  10. PlanetDISK®PlanetDISK® achieves domestic wastewater treatment at high levels to satisfy European Environmental Criteria such as BOD levels < 20mg/L and also nitrification and denitrification requirements. Treated wastewater is used for irrigation purposes. Bottle on the left: Raw sewage influent Bottle in the middle: Treated wastewater effluent from the final clarifier. 11. RBC vs Activated Sludge (AS) • In most AS system, the quality, age and the physical properties of the sludge must be frequently observed by trained personell for consistent results. Such systems heavily depend on human factor and therefore, very often the system fails! • In PlanetDISK®RBC system, the aging sludge shears off at a steady rate by gravity as the disks turn. • RBC system requires less attention - less maintenance. That is one of the major reasons why most housing sites, hotels and small communities prefer RBC over all other methods. PlanetDISK Compact Wastewater Treatment Units

  12. RBC vs Activated Sludge (AS) • In AS system, the forced air is blown into the wastewater via blowers that use much energy. A typical AS blower for 250 pe uses 4-5kw. • InRBC system, the rotation of the rotor exposes biomass on disks to oxygen, allowing organisms to multiply. Low speed less then 5rpm via motor and reduction gear consumes less than 1kW! • RBC technology is still by far the least energy consuming technology when compared to all other technologies. 13. What are the competitive advantages of PlanetDISK®? Case Study: Kiryas Joel, NewYork Population: 13,100 • All three (treatment) alternatives had common elements — each had influent screening, primary settling, disinfection and an operations building — and capital cost estimates were similar. However, RBC clearly had lower operation and maintenance costs as a result of power and labor savings. (The other options involved heavy energy usage from large blowers and an additional operator to frequently monitor process variables.) Overall, the RBC alternative offered the best combination of reasonable capital cost and low operations and maintenance costs.Additionally, it issimple to operate and does not require constant attention or sophisticatedinstrumentation • http://www.americancityandcounty.com/mag/government_ big_solutions_small/ PlanetDISK Compact Wastewater Treatment Units

  14. For sustainable environment protection, the treatment methods must have reasonable operation and maintenance costs. This news from the Turkish newspaper is not unique to Turkey. Unfortunately the situation is very similar in many countries! “Even the establishments who actually own Wastewater treatment units do not use them due to heavy energy consumption. The establishments usually shut the units off and discharge the untreated wastewater to the nearest clean water source.” One of many unused, rusting Activated Sludge units... PlanetDISK Compact Wastewater Treatment Units

  15. What are the competitive advantages of PlanetDISK®? • Extremely low energy demand – savings up to 80% in energy costs. Less then 1 kW electrical motor easily runs an RBC for 250 p.e. where other systems require 4 to 5kW blowers to supply dissolved oxygen. • Extremely low maintenance costs – easy maintenance and supervision as no complex sludge monitoring is required. Labor saved in weekly maintenance is usually around 80%. More importantly; it is not dependent on operator skills! PlanetDISK Compact Wastewater Treatment Units

  16. What are the competitive advantages of PlanetDISK®? • Less space required - discs with thousands of square meter surface area, where oxidizing bacteria grow on, can be stacked in a small area. That is 20-50 % saving in foot print. • Durable – corrosion resistant materials used in manufacturing. GRP – fiber body and virgin HDPP are the heart of the unit and unlike most competitors’ products, will last several decades PlanetDISK Compact Wastewater Treatment Units

  17. What are the competitive advantages of PlanetDISK®? • Smell-free technology –no blowers driving smell out of the plant. Also the odor causing bacteria is destroyed by the friendly bacteria on disks. Therefore the air actually is cleaner – contains less bacteria – around PlanetDISK® units! • Noise - free technology –Low energy consumption electric motor has less than 60 db noise level compared to 100-120 db noise levels (similar noise level of a diesel generator from a distance of 1 meter) of most blowers. PlanetDISK Compact Wastewater Treatment Units

  18. What are the competitive advantages of PlanetDISK®? • 4 different standart sizes available to satisfy different requirements of clients changing from 50-10,000 pe. 2 m diameter disks in Fiber or concrete tanks 125cm diameter disks in fiber or concrete pools. PlanetDISK Compact Wastewater Treatment Units

  19. What makes RBC so perfect is the shear simplicity behind its operation. This is the ultimate key to a sustainable Wastewater Treatment process and we simply agree with the master’s words; “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.”Leonardo da Vinci Increasing energy costs and difficult maintenance of classical technologies like Activated Sludge are making RBC the optimum solution choice for sustainable environment protection as well as recycling of wastewater for irrigation purposes.
