Motivation • Parallel Computers have been around for a while • Many parallel applications have been effectively parallelized: • but a small fraction • at special places, like DOE labs • For Scientists and Engineers, it is still an unrealized promise: • Main focus on Science/Engineering modeling issues • Magical parallelization hasn’t worked

Themes • Focus on dynamic, complex, difficult to parallelize application • Exploitation of common patterns found across application domains • Development of • enabling technologies, • embodied in reusable libraries • training programs and materials • emphasis on acting as a resource to the community • Cycles are not a focus
