Types of HLC Reports • Progress Report • College reports on Progress with respect to specific issues. • Monitoring Report • College reports on specific issues • If…Then consequences • Very Serious • Contingency Report • College reports plans if something would happen that would affect its future.

  4. Our Monitoring Report • Due November 2009 • Refer to Pages 1-3 of Draft Monitoring Report (Quote from Focused Visit Report) • If….Then section (bottom line p2 to p3)

Rationale & Expectations “The monitoring report should demonstrate that the college has total participation among the faculty in assessing general education, and the 100 percent development of program outcome goals/objectives and measures for assessing all the associate degree programs at the college. Some assessment results and their impact in changing courses or programs will also be expected for the monitoring report.”

  6. If…Then “If the college does not meet the expectations outlined for the monitoring report, additional Commission follow-up is appropriate, and includes three possible levels of follow-up such as a Progress Report, focused visit, or moving forward the comprehensive visit by one year, depending on the level of progress described in the Monitoring Report.”

  7. To get a Progress Report… If the college does not meet all the expectations outlined for the monitoring report, but has made substantial progress in refining general education assessment and in developing program outcomes assessment, the team recommends a progress report to be due in November 2010, which should describe progress toward the expectations stated in the monitoring report.  This is next year!

  8. To get a Focused Visit If the college has not made substantial progress in developing program outcomes and the implementation of program-related assessment measures, including the collection of student outcomes assessment information, the team suggests a focused visit in November 2010.  This is next year!

  9. To get Comprehensive moved up a year.. If the college has not made any progress in developing program outcomes assessment, the team recommends that the next comprehensive visit be moved forward one year to 2010-2011. This is next year!

Observations: Program Outcomes • Student Products should be from the academic year of graduation. • If earlier course is used, then the second MOA might be a more advanced course. • Consider assessing fall courses in January of the same academic year instead of waiting for May. • Consider “Two-Fer’s” • Results: what number of students out of how many students…you need to include this! • Rubrics: Fair game for use of results…did they work or do they need revision? If so, how do they need to be revised for next time?

  16. Rubrics • Handout: • Rubric for Rubrics • Thank you Pat Shields!! • A checklist is not a rubric, but it still needs descriptors of what is minimal for a “yes.” • Look at sub scores: strengths and weaknesses to guide “use of results.”

Job List • Update your 5-Column Matrices • Results and Use of Results for AT LEAST One Assessment Cycle (even if you need to dig through file drawers) • By end of September for feedback • Send me your rubrics, the latest version you used for May 2009 cycle ASAP • Send me your division/working group minutes, emails, and dates that you met. ASAP • Schedule time with me in program groups if needed. • Ask me for help in locating rubrics at other colleges if what you have doesn’t seem to work.
