Transitive Verbs • Expresses an action that is directed toward a noun (person, place, thing) • The action passes from the subject (doer) to the receiver (object). • Example: Tamishaentertained the child. [The action of entertained is directed at the child.] • Felipe visited San Juan. [The action of visited is directed toward San Juan.]

  5. Intransitive Verbs • Does not pass action to a receiver or object. It just expresses an action or tells something about the subject. • Example: The children smiled. [The action of smiled is not directed at anyone or anything.] • The horse galloped across the prairie. [The verb galloped is not acting upon anything or anyone.]
