  2. Un problema general de los sensores, es que cada uno tiene una señal de salida diferente , propia, dependiente del fabricante y del medio de transmisión que se utilice. Una de las ventajas de los sensores inteligentes es que permiten uniformizar el tipo de salida de la señal ya sea entregando una señal analógica normalizada, o una digital . Para lograr este objetivo se suele recurrir a dos estrategias: Integrar sobre un a misma pastilla de silicio a todos los atributos del sensor inteligente, o lograr utilizar circuitos económicos y pequeños para implementarlo con sensores no inteligentes.

  3. Un sensor inteligente debe ser diseñado de tal manera que su aplicación no resulte difícil. Estándar IEC 61499 Define una arquitectura distribuida orientada a eventos y requisitos de herramientas de software para la encapsulación, la incrustación, el despliegue y la integración de la propiedad intelectual (IP) en dispositivos inteligentes, máquinas y sistemas.
