  1. Plans for the Introduction of a High Rate DCP Service on MSG • DCP and HRDCP Comparison • HRDCP message • Overall Planning • User and Manufacturer Liaison

  2. DCP Comparison • “Standard” DCP • Baud Rate = 100 bps • Current Slot allocation = 1min30sec. • Timing accuracy = +/- 15 seconds • Data per DCP message = 649 bytes • Channel bandwidth MTP = 3KHz • Channel Bandwidth MSG = 1.5 KHz • Max nb of messages per channel per day = 760 • High Rate DCP • Baud Rate = 1200 • Slot allocation = 10 sec minimum • Timing accuracy = +/- 0.5 seconds • Data per DCP message min 653 bytes for 10 second time slot . • Channel Bandwidth = 2.25 KHz • Max nb of messages per channel per day = 10800 • Maximum message size single message = 65535 bytes

  3. 1 – 65535 bytes ( but also TX time limited ) 12 bytes 4 bytes CRC Header Platform Data Trailer Engineering Information DCP Address Res . Platform Data Sequence Spare Length Counter Version Type Compr . Health 24 3 1 2 10 Bits 31 1 16 8 4 2 1 2 3 Bytes MSB Sent First HRDCP Message format

  4. Main HRDCP characteristics • Support lossless compression • Scrambled and encoded, using a convolutional concatenated encoder – RS (255,232) as inner code – • Modulation modes: • CMM1: unmodulated carrier only, • CMM2: BPSK modulation for preamble and ASM, and • CMM3: OQPSK for HRDCP coded message frame.

  5. Overall Planning • Phase 1- DCP Receiver Prototype Testing with standard DCPs • November 2009 • Phase 2- DCP Receiver Prototype Testing with HRDCPs • 3rd Quarter 2010 • Phase 3 - Operational Implementation • End 2010

  6. Users and Manufacturers Liaison • September 2009 EUMETSAT Meteorological Satellite Conference • A poster presented at the conference with information about HRDCPs. • DCP Flyer • A EUMETSAT DCP Flyer will be produced describing the Meteosat Data Collection System and highlighting the benefits of HRDCPs. This is planned for 4th quarter 2009. • HRDCP Workshop • This workshop is planned for 15th of March 2010 aimed at DCP manufacturers and large DCP Operators and will cover: • Overall HRDCP implementation plan • Detailed discussion of the HRDCP specifications • Manufacturers plans for the introduction and marketing of HRDCPs • HRDCP certification process
