  2. Introduction • References are one part of our job search over which we have complete control. • Job seekers usually put "References available upon request" on the bottom of their resumes. • References can hurt job seekers more than they know. • There are important tips that may help us to prepare for References.

  3. Tips • Assume your references will be checked • Ask permission before listing a reference • Make sure your references are comfortable speaking on your behalf • Verify your information • Coach your references • Keep your references informed • Choose references based on job requirements • Choose your references based on what they can say about you, not name recognition • Consider a reference check a good sign

  4. Assume your references will be checked • If you assume your references will not be checked by employers, you are taking a substantial risk. • It is always a good thing to assume that employers are going to call references

  5. Ask permission before listing a reference • Many companies prohibit employees from providing any information other than job titles and dates of employment • Asking permission eliminates many of the problems references cause job seekers

  6. Make sure your references are comfortable speaking on your behalf • If you sense a reference may be hesitant, it is better to ask if the person would prefer providing a letter of reference. • Even though, you may never need or use the letter, at least you'll know a hesitant reference isn't on your list.

  7. Verify your information • Make sure the phone numbers, job titles, company names and addresses for your advocates are correct. • Should be typed on letterhead-quality paper that matches your resume • Should always have the list ready to present at an interview or when applying for a job

  8. Coach your references • Some employers may ask your references for names of others to contact. • Try to talk to each person you ask to serve as a reference. • Discuss your job goals, outline the qualities and skills you're emphasizing in your job search . • Give each a copy of your resume .

  9. Keep your references informed • Job seekers should update References regularly on how the search is progressing • Telling references about the requirements of each job • Refreshing their memories of your qualification • demonstrated the skills the employer desires.

  10. Choose references based on job requirements • Follows according steps_ • List every potential reference • Under each name, jot down the job skills and work characteristics each one knows best • Rotate your references by choosing them based on the skills you want to spotlight for a particular position.

  11. Choose your references based on what they can say about you, not name recognition • Should list only references who are well acquainted with your work • Should list only references who feel comfortable talking about you.

  12. Consider a reference check a good sign • An employer only will call References if the candidate is viable. • It is often one of the last steps before a job offer is extended.

  13. Conclusion • References play a very important role on the job seekers Resume. • References could cost job seekers many opportunities. • Job seekers should consider all these tips before sending out their Resumes.
